His eyes gleamed with something that sent shivers of awareness through her. “I’ll leave you here.” He lingered over the kiss on her knuckles, and her fingers clutched in response to the heat of his mouth. “I’m glad you paid me a visit.”
She was appalled that she felt so reluctant to leave him. “I’m stopping by again,” she blurted out, “to meet Joe.”
There was a great silence between them.
“You can’t do that.” His voice was quiet. “For many reasons, not the least of which is protecting your good reputation.”
“I know.” She swallowed. “But I’m going to do it anyway. So don’t try to stop me.”
He lifted her chin, the gleam in his eyes becoming more pronounced. “You’re both headmistress and troublemaker. Do you know what that combination does to a man?”
“No,” she said, feeling rather breathless.
“It makes him unable to think of anyone but you. In the morning. At the noon hour. And at night.”
At night? Her face grew hot. “_____________, you shouldn’t—“
“Go home,” he said abruptly. “Before I pull you into another alleyway.”
And so she fled. Once she was at a safe distance, she glanced over her shoulder to catch a glimpse of him walking away. But he hadn’t. He was still there in his black cape, his gaze dark and steady upon her beneath the rim of his hat.
She couldn’t help herself. She turned and faced him, walking slowly backwards a few steps, her eyes locked on his, drinking in the sight of him. The wind blew a lock of hair in her eyes, and she pulled it aside.
She saw the corner of his mouth tip up once more, and her heart surged.
She spun forward again, and somehow at that moment—when she could feel him still watching her—she was able to forget the reality of her hopeless situation.
And for a brief, shining moment, it was like walking beneath an invisible rainbow into a bigger and brighter life.

My Review
Honestly, from the book cover, I didn't expect to enjoy this book.. I've never been one for the full on "romance" novels. Awesome surprise! This book is very well written. The characters have great spunk and are written so well, it's not like a bunch of fluff! I won't give away any details, since Kieran herself didn't even want to use names in the teasers, but this book is definitely worth the read, especially if you don't think you'll like it because it isn't your preferred genre!
I give this book 4 stars!

Interview with Mary Ann Loesch

Bayou Myth by Mary Ann Loesch

From Goodreads: As a sixteen year old voodoo queen in the making, Joan Renault just wants to be like all the other girls in the small town of Monte Parish, Louisiana—obsessed with boys and swamped with social lives. If the other kids would quit calling her “hoodoo hag,” she might have a small shot at normality. It would also help if Joan’s weekend outings with her secret crush, Dave, weren’t always being interrupted by her dead Grandmere, the legendary Marie Laveau. After all, it’s hard to make out with your best friend when your grandmother is watching! But when you come from a long line of voodoo priestesses with dried gator heads decorating the wall of their huts, normal doesn’t come easily.
When Joan witnesses the brutal sacrifice of a child to a tree Druid, she learns her Grandmere’s scandalous past has come back to haunt those living in the present. Hera, a vengeful voodoo priestess is determined to use the residual energy of Pandora’s Box to revive a sleeping voodoo god and declare war on the descendants of Marie Laveau, especially Joan. Suddenly, Greek myths are being re-enacted all over town, and Joan has her hands full trying to sort it all out. With the approach of Samedi’s Day—the voodoo day of resurrection—Joan must learn to accept her destiny in order to stop the approaching threat to her family and friends.

The Interview:

1) Tell us a bit about Bayou Myth.
Bayou Myth is my latest release! It's a young adult novel set in the spooky bayous of Louisiana. My main character, Joan, is a sixteen year old voodoo queen in the making who has to deal with some Greek myths that have gone wild in her home town. She's guided by her long dead grandmother, the infamous Marie Laveau, and she has a huge crush on her best friend, Dave.

2) Did you have to do a lot of research to write this book?
Actually, I did! The teenage angst came easily enough, but learning about the voodoo pantheon and tying it to Greek mythology took some work. I also researched a lot about Marie Laveau, who was a real voodoo priestess in New Orleans in the 1800's. The stories about her are legendary. She's definitely a fascinating and mysterious character.

3) What inspired you to write about voodoo?
Bayou Myth is based on a short story I published called Bayou Scar. That story was about a grown up Joan who works for the New Orleans police department. But she isn't a normal cop. She uses her knowledge of voodoo to help solve particular crimes. I thought the story had potential for a novel, but as I started writing Joan's back story, I became interested in her life as a teenager. There aren't that many YA books right now that focus on voodoo, so I thought I'd kind of run with the idea.
Also, voodoo is a misunderstood religion. Not that I helped clear up those misunderstandings though……

4) What kind of "quirks" do you have while writing?
I hate being interrupted. I've had to train my family how to approach me when I'm working. I usually let them know that I'll be writing from this time to that time and that it is forbidden to come and ask me a question about where something is in the house.
Especially if it relates to the laundry.

5) Do you have a favorite character you've written?
I love Joan from Bayou Myth, but my all time favorite character that I've created is an angel called Nathan Ink. He's a tattoo artist who specializes in tattooing people with symbols that represent the seven deadly sins. Of course, his tattoos are special and odd things happen to the people who allow him to ink their skin. You can read about him in my other novel, Nephilim.

6) What's next for you?
I've got so much on my plate! I'm finishing up Bayou Scar, the sequel to Bayou Myth, as well as, working on several other projects for freelance clients. I'm also a school teacher, so I'm trying really hard to get some enthusiasm to return to work after an awesome summer of writing.

My Review

When I first saw the blurb for this book, I thought it was going to be a heart-breaking story of a horrible childhood... Now that I've read it, I realize that, although the childhoods of the Acamea and her brother David were truly dysfunctional, the real story is of learning who you really are; becoming stronger through all of your life's trials instead of rolling over and letting them consume you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was uplifting and inspiring and I recommend it to everyone, especially those who've had any trying experiences in their lives! Thanks to the great author for having the courage to share her harrowing, yet inspiring life story with us all!
I give this book 5 stars!!

Interview: J.A. Belfield

It all started with a daydream.

One of those daydreams where a character or scene pops into your head, and you start controlling the little people inside your imagination as though you are the puppet master and they your toys. Questions arise: What would happen if ...? How would they react if ....? Who would they meet if ...? And before you know it, a singular scene has become an entire movie. Those characters you control will begin to hold conversations. Their actions will reflect the personality you have bestowed upon them. Within no time, they have a life, an entire world in which they live, a lover, a foe, family ... they have Become.
One day, I wrote my thoughts down. I've yet to stop.

The Interview:

1) I love the “about” section on your site. Tell us about your decision to finally write it all down.
Thank you. :) Well, I’d pretty much daydreamed since birth, but I’d never actually done anything with those daydreams—never even thought to do anything with them.
Until May 2009.
I have no idea why I had a sudden yen to write that particular dream down. I almost didn’t, because even though I wanted to, the idea of doing so felt kind of ridiculous to me. But then I told my sister and my best friend, and within days was scribbling away to the soundtrack of ‘Dooooo eeeeeeeeeeeet’. ;)

2) How long was the story tumbling around in your head before writing it down?
Which one? First story ever (which I shall not name because it was meh!): a couple of weeks. Darkness & Light: couple of weeks. Instinct: around six months—same for Eternal. Blue Moon, I pondered over for around one week before I started on it. I think the longest I’ve waited to write an idea from concept to construction is a year.

3) Do you have a favorite Holloway Pack member?
Gargh! Tough question! My favourite Holloway Pack member is often whoever I happen to be writing at the time, LOL. Which I guess makes me pretty fickle. Sean’s been in my head the longest, though, and he’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

4) Did you write yourself into any of your characters?
Ha! Now that’d be telling. ;)

5) Tell us about “Into The Unknown”
Into the Unknown is an anthology of three stories by three different authors. One of those stories—Marked—is a Holloway Pack mini, which falls time-wise between Darkness & Light and Blue Moon. It’s not essential reading for the series—more a bit of fun for any who’ve come to enjoy the characters. It’s also told from Sean’s POV—so a little like Instinct, except two centuries later. :)

6) Do you have any non-wolf-related stories currently bouncing around in there?
Funny you should ask. ;) My short story, Escort to Insanity, is due to release this December in the Make Believe anthology—and for the first time ever in one of my stories, there is not a werewolf in sight. I’m also hoping to find time to write a couple of non-werewolf YA novels I’ve had pinging in my head this year—though I don’t want to disclose what those will be about just yet. :)

7) Have you always loved reading/writing?
I’ve always loved reading, yes. My earliest favourite read I can remember was a book called: Teeny Tiny & the Witch. And I remember loving everything Enid Blyton, from Amelia Jane to Famous Five, before moving on to Judy Blume then my mum’s Mills & Boon. As for writing? For as long as I’ve been doing it, I’ve loved it yes. It’s as frustrating as heck sometimes, sure it is, but I have to love it, otherwise what would be the point? :)

8) Who/what are some of your favorite authors/books?
Now? I’ve recently stepped into dystopia for my reading material and I’ve been loving what I’ve found there so far with Hunger Games and Divergent. I’m also pretty much in love with Jennifer L. Armentrout’s work—she creates great characters for readers to connect with. Rachel Vincent always seems to create males I can fall in love with. And Black Dagger Brotherhood, Karen Marie Moning’s Fever, and Georgina Kincaid are some of my favourite series’ to date.

9) Can you give us aspiring authors any advice on writing and/or getting published?
Besides keep writing—as much as you can, whenever you can, to hone your craft—and never give up? Yeah, I’d say research. And I don’t mean research for whatever story you happen to be writing. I mean research of the industry. Get to know how the process of getting a book out there works. Take note of the publishers and what titles they produce, and the agents and who they represent. Follow blogs who post about book news and keep an eye on what’s going on. Without this knowledge, you’ll be going in blind. I often get asked ‘How do I get my book published?’ by folks who’ve decided to write a novel of their own. The information is out there in abundance. Read it, learn it, then use it to your advantage. Knowledge is power, after all—or so they say. :)

The Tribe's Bride: Review and Giveaway

My Review

When I started this story, I honestly was a bit nervous. I did not think I would enjoy the plot, a young woman traveling back in time and becoming the wife of three brothers. To me, it seemed overwhelming, I have enough of a hard time being a wife to one man, I couldn't imagine three!
I was very pleasantly surprised! The story was tastefully written and never crossed the line into "oogy", one of my favorite words to describe what I honestly thought this story would be. In each of the brother's there were qualities that would make up the perfect man.. if ever they could all coexist in one man.
The descriptions in this book are told in such a way, that I could believe the author had a real working knowledge of life back in the 1600's for Native American tribes.
In the end, I am glad I read this book and will look forward to reading more!
I give this book 3.5 stars!
